President of Turkmenistan receives Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko. He arrived in Ashgabat at the head of a delegation for the meeting of the Turkmen-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation.

As the correspondent reports referring to the official sources, the two sides noted with satisfaction the mutual intention to enhance the dialogue in such priority areas as the fuel and energy sector, trade and economy, metallurgy, transportation, urban development, agriculture and education.

The sides also noted the importance of searching new forms of trade and economic cooperation on an equitable and long-term basis, namely joint business forums, trade fairs and specialized exhibitions.

On the same day, the delegation of Ukraine attended a special meeting of the Turkmen-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation. The sides held a detailed exchange of views on the main issues of the long-term mutually beneficial cooperation, including in the oil and gas, transportation, and construction sectors.





President of Turkmenistan receives OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Foreign Minister of Ukraine

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara. As the correspondent reports referring to the press service of the head of state, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Turkmenistan Valentin Chevalev also attended the meeting.

The sides exchanged views on development of interstate cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats, including through the OSCE, which is currently chaired by Ukraine.

In particular, the sides noted that Turkmenistan and Ukraine, being the members of the OSCE, have many opportunities for effective cooperation in enhancing the role of the OSCE in the context of ensuring security of transit of energy resources. 

Leonid Kozhara expressed support for Turkmenistan's international initiatives aimed at strengthening the foundations of peace, stability and security at the regional and global scale.

In his turn, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to discuss new proposals of Ukrainian partners, “who have supported the implementation of a number of joint projects in various fields, including such key sectors of Turkmenistan’s economy as oil and gas and transport.”

During the meeting, the sides stressed the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations in trade, economic, energy, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

During the visit, Leonid Kozhara also had a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, where the sides exchanged views on major issues related to the long-term cooperation, including between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

Turkmenistan establishes Governmental Commission on accession to WTOTurkmenistan has established a Governmental Commission to review issues related to the country's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The composition of the commission has been also approved. 

As the correspondent reports, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a corresponding decree aimed at “safe and efficient integration of Turkmenistan into the global economic system, increasing competitiveness of Turkmenistan’s industries and their products, establishing market relations based on laws and in accordance with the international standards.” 

The document also instructs the governmental commission to review issues associated with Turkmenistan’s accession to the WTO and conduct all the related work.
