Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will visit Turkmenistan on June 5 this year to take part in the ceremony of starting construction of Atamyrat-Ymamnazar-Akin section of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway. According to the vice-premier of the Turkmen government, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, it is expected that the heads of the two friendly neighboring states will also take part in the celebrations on the occasion of the opening of the village of Garlyk in Koytendag district of Lebap province.
Speaking at a government meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed the importance of the upcoming ceremony of starting construction of Atamyrat-Ymamnazar-Akin section of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway, which responds to the interests of the project participating countries and development of broad objectives of mutually beneficial cooperation at the regional and international level.
According to the President of Turkmenistan, implementation of this project will contribute to the development of the region's transport links and creation of conditions for its effective integration into the international transport and communications infrastructure.
Turkmenistan, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Republic of Tajikistan signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the project of construction of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway at a trilateral in Ashgabat on March 20.
