Turkmenistan to open embassy in Seoul and consulate in AktauIssues relating to establishment of Turkmenistan’s Embassy in the Republic of Korea (Seoul) and Turkmenistan’s Consulate in Kazakhstan (Aktau) were discussed at the last government meeting.
In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a number of specific instructions with regard to establishment of Turkmenistan’s Embassy in Seoul and Consulate in Aktau. The President of Turkmenistan noted that these events will become important milestones in the history of relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea and Kazakhstan.
Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea established the diplomatic relations in February 1992. In January 2007, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea was opened in Turkmenistan.
Kazakhstan’s city of Aktau is the regional center of Mangistau region, neighboring Balkan province of Turkmenistan. This region of Kazakhstan is home to a large Turkmen diaspora. The two countries reached an agreement on establishment of the Consulate of Turkmenistan in the city of Aktau and Consulate of Kazakhstan in the city of Turkmenbashi.
Turkmenistan has established diplomatic relations with 131 countries. Turkmenistan maintains 33 diplomatic missions and consulates in foreign countries.
