1-4 July 2013 delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov took part at the annual meeting of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in Geneva. November 2012 Turkmenistan was elected to the ECOSOC - one of the key organs of the United Nations, for the period 2013-2015.
Within sessions Turkmenistan in the capacity of the Vice-Chairman of the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) presented to the Council regional report for Europe. Special attention was paid to the key issues of the forum - science, innovation and technology for development. Delegation also presented the national statement, which outline the basic principles of the state policy pursued by the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The statement reflected the international initiatives put forward by the Turkmen leader and aimed at addressing the current issues and the development of broad constructive cooperation in priority areas - economy, energy, and environment.
